Lake Oconee, located in Central Georgia, southeast of Atlanta, was created in 1979 as a result of the Wallace Dam construction. The nearly 20,000-acre lake has 374 miles of shoreline and is formed by the Oconee River and the Apalachee River. The lake and the surrounding area is a popular recreation spot for Georgians and those from around the Southeast. In addition to activities offered on the lake, the area boasts several excellent golf courses.
