Lake Oconee’s First Annual Poker Run was a Success!
The first annual Poker Run here at Lake Oconee was a definite success! Hosted by Justice Marine and Pinnacle Credit Union, the turn out was great and the money raised exceeded expectations. After all was said and done, the event raised over $11,000!! All of which was donated to the Shriner’s Hospital. In addition to raising money for a great cause, Kim and Lin Logan Real Estate had a great time and were able meet a lot of new people and make connections.
Boaters from many different lakes came to Lake Oconee to attend this event! Bigger boats that aren’t normally allowed on Lake Oconee received special permission to attend the Poker Run. By allowing the larger boats, the event was able to bring lake lovers from all over together to have one super fun day! The event couldn’t have been possible without the help of Sugar Creek Marina who allowed the event to take place there and Georgia Butts Barbecue who provided the food at their new lakeside location.
Anna the Amphicar was a huge hit and everyone wanted to see and take pictures of her.
There were over 50 boats of all shapes and sizes – big ones, little ones, fast ones, slow ones…
This was our first time ever attending a poker run, so we had no idea what to expect. In case you’re in the same boat (pun intended) as us, here’s what a boat poker run is:
Step 1: Find all of the destinations. Usually, there are 5-7 different locations where you receive a card. This event had 5.
Step 2: Get your cards!
Step 3: Get lunch [at GA Butts Barbecue] and admire other boats
Step 4: Hang out [at the sandbar] and have fun!
Step 5: Open your cards and win [or lose]!
